I'm Back from Phoenix

I just returned from a long weekend visiting my daughter and her six children in Arizona where the temps reached 106 degrees!

When I returned I had a nice email exchange with Violet's granddaughter Laurie, so today I'll feature a few photos from that family. My Mom, Evelyn, lived with Violet and Art and family while my Dad was serving overseas during WWII. Violet's daughter Jo-Ann was a teenager when I was born and I've been told she took very good care of me.

Violet - always so glamorous!

I know these are Violet's sons Charles and Dale
but there is nothing written on the back of the
photos so I'm not sure which is which.

A Letter from Mommie

Since we lived far away from Mommie and Poppie, letters were the main form of communication between my Mom and her parents. As soon as I learned to read I couldn't wait to open her letters and get the latest from Michigan. This letter was written in the mid 1960s and was typical of her newsy style.

Glen, Berneda and Doris, Right?

Is this Dorothy?

Can you identify?

A Beautiful Portrait

I love this photo - the way they all look directly into the camera.
I wonder what thoughts were in their minds.

Watkins Photos

This is one of my favorite pictures of Poppie. He looks so serene surrounded by his chickens!

Mommie and Poppie came to visit us in North Dakota and it was so exciting to have them around. You can tell by the look on Mommie's face that she was having fun watching me shampoo my hair.

Random Watkins Photos

For those of us from North Dakota who grew up mostly separated from our Michigan family, looking through the box of photos Mom kept was the way we stayed connected.

Irene

She was so pretty and died too young.

Poppie must have worked on the railroad but I don't have any information other than this picture.

I recognize Glen and Berneda - anyone know the rest?

Written on the back - Grandma Follett, Grandma Huff,
Mommie, Violet - four generations.

On the back of this photo in Mommie's handwriting "I wonder who caught this one".
